Tasting Notes: Non-Vintage Laetitia XD Sparkling Wine

TWL Laetitia Sparkling capI’m a big fan of sparkling wine and I have to admit I’ve had my share of New Year’s Day “bubbly” hang overs. Nevertheless, I will continue to indulge year after year.

But the thing is champagne [note: sparkling wine can only really be called “champagne” if it comes from the wine region of Champagne, France.  Genuine champagne is made using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. While all champagne is sparkling wine, not every sparkling wine is champagne.] is NOT just for special occasions. I truly love using it to celebrate life in every way.

Or PMS, for that matter!

Since I live close to California’s central coast, I have heard of Laetitia Vineyard & Winery in Arroyo Grande, but I have never been to their tasting room nor had I tried their wine. My mom happened to be on her first girls’ get-away trip (Her first one ever in 40 years of marriage). She called me from the winery and asked me what I wanted. When she said they had a sparkling wine, naturally I said I want that one.

Frankly, I really didn’t have the greatest expectations.TWL Laetitia Sparkling flute and bottle

It didn’t help that it had a dry cork that broke off in the neck. Unfortunately, I’ve had plenty of experience with this sort of thing and so wrestled it out. Yikes! It started fizzing over! But with cat-like reflexes, I was able to suck up some of those bubbles to minimize the loss.

Very rarely am I at a loss for words when it comes to wine. I was totally won over by the beauty of this sparkling in the glass! I have never wanted more to pour champagne into a bath tub and just soak in it. It was so delicate, balanced, and sexy. Now those three words are all you need to describe a fantastic bubble job!

TWL Laetitia Sparkling back labelI will definitely be a repeat offender of Laetitia’s  Sparkling XD. I am sure I drank 3/4 of that bottle just myself. I totally wasn’t in the mood to share. But there were three other people with me, so I offered them a taste and they just fell in love with it, too. Even my friend who prefers sweeter wines was like “Wow! This is so good — and it’s dry!”

The sparkling really is a crowd pleaser. If you have a bubbly ‘snob’ on your holiday gift list, this would be perfect for him.

I give this a high rating. Oh, and I plan on having this wine with Christmas dinner at my home.
