Pairing food, drinks, and spooky movies

Over the past 8 years or so I have made a yearly habit of pairing Halloween-themed movies with food, cocktails, or wine. Sometimes both. We look forward to yearly meals during the Holidays, I know I will have to cook dinner anyways, so why not have a little fun and pair it with some favorite spooky season classics?

At last! My arm is complete again!
— Sweeney Todd

Meat Pies perfectly pairs with Sweeney Todd and a deep red blend.

Sweeny Todd- Fan of musicals and blood? Well, this is your movie. For me, This movie just gets better every year I watch it, Just like Casablanca. Now that statement may upset a few people. But just like in both films, you hear jokes that were not there the first time you watched the movie, and the characters grow on you; who is the evil one in this underrated Jonny Deep film? They could be up to the eye of the beholder.

100% meat pies are what you pair with this film.  Here is my recipe for non-human kind.

For a wine pairing, the recipe calls for a dry red wine, use that same wine you cooked with to enjoy the meat pies.

On Halloween night, the Great Pumpkin rises from his pumpkin patch and flies through the air with his bag of toys to all the children.
— Linus

The Great Pumpkin- This classic I save until Halloween night. It's short and sweet and gives you a good feeling to end the spooky season with.  Buttered popcorn and California Oaked Chardonnay. It's a pairing as old as time.   If you want to go on the adult side, pumpkin Al pastors soup, pair it with that same oaky Chardonnay.  With soups, you can always make it a day or two before and heat it up when needed, even freeze the leftovers for a fast-sidedish for Thanksgiving.

“it’s all just a bunch of hocus pocus.
— Max

Hocus Pocus- Again, another movie I save the Halloween eve. The evening temps have cooled way down. It’s time to get cuddly. Like all movies, watching at home is best bra-less; this one, in particular, watching the three sisters in corsets chasing children and all I want is to breathe.  Now the movie takes place in Salem Massachusetts, Salem is a coastal town and seafood would be plentiful. Using their cauldron to do more than make batches of spells but batches of Sanderson stews. Here is my recipe to conjure up this One-pot Sanderson Strew stew and brew. The mushroom caps make great shrunken heads easy to make or get your kids involved in making kitchen magic.

I’m The Ghost With The Most, Babe!
— Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice- A great classic and Michal kentan is in his prime. With one of my favorite soundtracks and make-up and effects, it's just like they don’t make movies like this anymore.

Shrimp cocktail and rose to pair the iconic dinner scene. Here are my go-to shrimp cocktails and rose.
